Party-Stunt On Mattress Towed By Truck Goes Wrong, Two Flown To Hospital

Two partygoers were seriously injured while attempting a stunt on a mattress being pulled by a truck in Manheim Townshipon Sunday, say authorities.

Northern York County Regional Police Department were called to investigate a crash in the 5500 block of Wolfgang School Road around 2:54 a.m.

On scene the police found a woman, 26 from Glen Rock, with a major head injury. Also on the ground was a man, 24 of Glen Rock, with a severe leg injury.

Any vehicles involved with the crash had left the scene.

Through interviews the police found out about a party where the couple were last seen, in the 6200 block of Wolfgang School Road.

While at the home the police discovered Elijah Winbourne, 19 of Hanover, had been driving a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with a box spring and mattress set being towed by a chain.

The couple was on the mattress when Winbourne took a curve on Wolfgang School Road, sending them off the roadway into a dangerous curve ahead road sign.

Both victims were flown via Stat MedEvac helicopter to York Hospital.

Winbourne fled the accident scene and returned to the party, leaving the pair at the sign.

The box springs and mattress were burned in a bonfire at the party, say police.

Police continue to investigate this incident.
